We still inhabit the universe together

and are tied together in a Love that cannot come untied

-Martha Hickman

Quotes & Readings from Devin's Celebration of Life

My spirit stirs with wonder

As God slips -

Almighty presence -

Into this domain of solitude

And deeply, deeply enters

Every crevice and corner.

Gently, imperceptibly

Holds my soul suspended

In God's mighty silence.

-Edwina Gately

Oh god of many names

Lover of all people

Give peace in our hearts

in our lives

in our homes

in our community

Between our religions in the world, in the universe

The peace of our need

The peace of your will.

HUG O' WAR

I will not play at tug o' war

I'd rather play at hug o' war

Where everyone hugs

Instead of tugs

Where everyone giggles,

and rolls on the rug

Where everyone kisses,

and everyone wins.

-Shel Silverstein

Where the Sidewalk Ends

It was here in this great green cathedral that you surprised and captured me

It was here, so young, so naive, And so ready to love.

That you stole from your shadows

Upon me and clasped me

Your whisper echoing from the great stone pillars,

Rushing past the row of angels' wings

And reaching from the sacred altar.

Yes, it was here, Here that you broke through your splendid fortress

And bent to kiss and claim an amazed and wondering child

Prayer for Peace

Be generous in prosperity, and thankful in adversity.

Be fair in our judgment, and guarded in our speech.

Be a lamp unto those who walk in darkness, and a home to the stranger.

Be eyes to the blind, and a guiding light unto the feet of the erring.

Be a breath of life to the body of humankind, a dew to the soil of the human heart, and a fruit upon the tree of humility.

Amen.
